I Stand With Planned Parenthood

It is truly a sad day for me to hear the news of the attacks again Planned Parenthood.

I have been going there since I was 13 years old. I quickly learned that regular doctors don't have the same compassion for my well-being.

In 2004 I thought I was dying. I went to specialist after specialist trying to figure out why my body suddenly turned against me. It wasn't until a year later that I was properly diagnosed. Not by the specialist or the Dr's at the numerous hospitals that I went to but by my OBGYN at Planned Parenthood.

In 2005, I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. No doctor or hospital would treat me because I was only 22 years old. I remember going to different states to try and have surgery and to no avail - I remember sitting with my Dr. at Planned Parenthood so upset at the world, and she said to me "hunny if I could do the surgery for you I would" that is compassion!

They have been treating my cancer for 10 years, and if it wasn't for them I wouldn’t be here. Being someone who has always been uninsured and can't afford the thousands of dollars a month for treatment, it was them who helped me through that - when other doctors wouldn't even see me. They found programs that I qualify for, and even one year, (during the week of Christmas) after my appointment when I went to pay my $2500 bill, for the treatment I get every month, my PSR looked at me and refused my money and said "Merry Christmas".

Everyone is entitled to their opinion - but just be sure it is based on facts! This new legislation will affect so many men and women who rely on Planned Parenthood for their well-being. I no longer have a primary doctor, my doctor at Planned Parenthood treats me for all my illness, a sore throat, the flu, she treats me, because to them - I am a person, not just a patient.
